A lion carved in relief from reclaimed timber, set into a dark grid of blocks and gold leaf.
About the work
The largest piece in the current collection and the one that changes most with the light. Reclaimed pine and mahogany offcuts are carved, scorched and set into a deep panel, then worked over with bitumen and gold leaf until the lion emerges from the grid behind it.
The mane is cut as a series of spirals that catch a raking light from the side — under a picture light or a nearby lamp the whole surface animates. Flat overhead lighting flattens it, so placement matters.
At 130 × 180cm this is a statement wall piece intended for a double-height space, a wide chimney breast or a commercial reception. Weight and fixing requirements are supplied ahead of delivery, and Deedi installs within the North West as standard.
